- The WiMAX Forum announced on March 25 four new members to its Board of Directors, including Bao-Shuh Paul Lin, vice president and general director of the ICL (Information and Communications Research Laboratories) of Taiwan's ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), according to a press release by the WiMAX Forum. The other three new members are Thomas Lee, vice director of Huawei Technologies' Industry Standards Department, Ali Tabassi, senior vice president of Clearwire's Global Ecosystem & Standards, and Dave Williams, Comcast Cable's Wireless Technology senior vice president. Other notable WiMAX Forum members include Airspan Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Aperto Networks, BT, Fujitsu, Intel, KDDI, KT, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, Samsung, Sprint, and ZTE.

- China's Huawei Technologies has deployed a 2.5GHz WiMAX commercial network in the Philippines for Globe Telecom, according to a press release by Huawei on March 25. Leveraging Huawei's telecom-grade, end-to-end WiMAX solution, Globe Telecom seeks to provide high-speed wireless broadband and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services for the Filipino users. Globe Telecom was expected to launch its WiMAX service at a monthly rate of 795 Pesos (US$16.49; US$1=48.22 Pesos) starting in March 2009. Initially the service will be available only in selected areas of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, according to Manila Standard Today.
